The Battle for Laikipia

Directed by

Laikipia County is one of the largest pasturelands for indigenous populations in Kenya. The area is rich in biodiversity and home to white ranchers, a community of former British colonizers before Kenya declared independence in 1963. The film was made during the extended drought that struck the Horn of Africa. It tells of the complex present-day issues, unresolved colonialism, conservation of the natural environment, and the devastating effects of climate change on the area. In this spiraling conflict driven by ever few resources, Laikipia has become a battlefield for survival and a harbinger of the challenges humanity will soon face.
