An imaginary journey to one of the world’s most famous cities: Venice. Tassilo lives on the canals in Neu Venedig, in southeast Berlin. Because of the Cold War he never visited the real Venice. A young Turkish couple about to get married dream of honeymooning in Venice and they find an imitation Venice in an Istanbul shopping mall. Bärbel and Nikola make Venetian carnival masks and costumes for a carnival in Southern Germany. A shepherd and a butcher consider themselves true Venetians but they live in the Transylvanian town of the same name. After fleeing the war in Bosnia, Marcia found work on the city outskirts where she works in a container transformed into a beauty salon called Venezia.
