Transumanza

Directed by

A journey along an abandoned centuries-old route – the Tratturo Magno: a 250-km long trail between L’Aquila and Foggia that was once Italy’s largest and longest livestock migration highway. Today, though still part of state property and marked on maps, sections of the Tratturo Magno vanish under asphalt parking lots, football fields, railroad lines, and fallow lands. A rite-of-passage journey on foot in the search for a modern meaning of transhumance: the traditional seasonal movement of flocks and their herders.
