Ostana is a group of hamlets facing Monviso, in an Occitan valley, province of Cuneo in western Piedmont. Up until the 1980s, Ostana was destined to disappear, like many other alpine villages. Through the long-sighted efforts of the local governments in supporting projects to help revitalize the area, the population has grown from five to about 40 year-round residents. The hostel-refuge "La Galaberna" is the focal point for Ostana's new economy. Here we meet the people who have chosen to live and work in Ostana: farmers, animal breeders, artists, young persons with a vision.
