Landshaft

Directed by
The film director travels with his camera to Lake Sevan and the Sotk gold mine in Nogorno-Karabakh. He records the stories of the persons he meets along his way. Some people recount with nostalgia the time when Armenia and Azerbaijan, two mountainous countries, did not fight over borders but rather co-existed pacifically under the former Soviet Union, while others demand to know who the hostile area really belongs to. Though the local economy is based on pasturing, the area is governed by mining companies that can destroy the social fabric worse than a war can. The film is kind of a contemplative road movie on the Armenian high plain, contended by geopolitical interests in a thoroughly humane dimension.
