La Cité animal
Directed by
«In Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, men and animals have a strange and fascinating relationship. By filming the town and its animals, we would like to convey the religious value and the profound meaning of the presence of animals roaming free amongst human beings in the town, according to a conception of the world which from time immemorial gives a real place to animals. For us, it is a humble attempt to get a foot in the fabulous and complex Indian civilisation. In our Western world, until cars appeared on the scene, our towns had been inhabited by ani-mals and human beings. Probably nostalgic for our past and our roots we were very moved by the animals in Jaipur living so intensely with the humans. We accuse our big "modern" Western cities inhabited by stressed and depressed people. By showing another way of life, we feel we can teach humans, as a Brahmin declares, that “No animals, no Paradise”».
