Caluso is a town in the rural Canavese area, and between the turn of the 19th century and the end of the second world war it saw the departure of thousands of emigrants heading for 'Merica', as Argentina was then known. In 1905, Munù's grandparents left this quiet town to settle in the province of Buenos Aires, where their descendants still live. One hundred years later, Munù came looking for her roots in order to fulfil her dream of presenting the town with one of her works that recalls the sacrifices made by all emigrants, past, present and future.
