I morti di Alos

Directed by

The village of Alos in Sardinia was wiped off the map in the 1960s. Drawing on an account by the sole survivor, Antonio Gairo, village life before the disaster and the events leading up to it are reconstructed. Part fiction, part true, this story is common to many Sardinian shepherd communities caught in the upheavals of industrialization during the economic boom years. Part gothic tale, part detective story that reveals the villain: modernity, according to the film director, is guilty of having destroyed villages like Alos and the centuries long tradition of pastorialism in Sardinia.
