Belle et Sébastien

Directed by

World War II. Seven-year-old Sebastien is an orphan and spends his days grazing with an elderly shepherd who acts as his grandfather. His life suddenly changes when he meets Belle, a Pyrenean mountain dog who lives in the woods around the small Alpine village where the boy lives. Accused of being a dangerous predator, the animal is injured by the villagers and nursed back to health by Sebastien. This marks the beginning of a great friendship, thanks to which a group of Jews manage to cross the border through the mountains and find refuge in Switzerland. Based on the French series created by Cécile Aubry in 1965, which also served as the basis for the famous 1980 anime.
