Trash - La leggenda della Piramide Magica

Directed by

Boxes, bottles and other rubbish. Abandoned in the streets, in markets, under bridges. Ignored by everyone, inert, lifeless. But, actually, as night falls, they magically come alive... Slim is a ruined cardboard box. He lives in a market with his friend Bubbles - a soda bottle - and other companions. This bizarre community manages to survive by hiding from the Suckers, vacuum cleaning machines. Yet Slim is resigned, no longer believing in anything, not even the legend of the Magic Pyramid, a mythical place where it seems that waste can regenerate, be reborn and still be useful carriers for themselves and others. It will be an unexpected event that will instil confidence in them and give them all a second chance at life.

We felt the need to work on a universal theme, a subject that did not have territorial barriers and that could be understood all over the world. We found it because it was right in front of our eyes... The environment around us was calling out for help, also through the call of the new generations for a cleaner world, in every sense. Since this is an animated film, we immediately thought that the point of view for dealing with such a complex issue had to be that of waste. Giving them a new life and a second chance through recycling. For containers that want nothing more than to be useful again, reuse is the highest aspiration and at the same time a chimera. Such a story could only take place in a big city, with its warm and neon lights. An immense city for objects only a few centimetres high. A place where the street, besides being a physical environment, becomes the symbol of the journey, of an 'on the road' adventure.

The narrative unfolds on two registers, one more comprehensible and compelling for younger viewers; the other, through the themes dealt with and the style adopted, aims to appeal to a more mature audience. We used a mixed staging technique, using real environments and then integrating CGI characters. Everything is experienced at the height of the protagonists to immerse the viewer in the world depicted. Realistic photography enlivens the action, emphasises the metropolitan world and allows the epic moments of the story to be enhanced. The narrative is never rhetorical or didactic. Everything is clearly suggested, but never made tediously obvious. The personalities of our little heroes are complex, as is their evolution. Simple gestures and actions encapsulate painful choices that affect us all. It is precisely these little beings, with their adventures and misadventures, who clarify for us what is the best choice to make. For themselves and for us.
