Tara

Directed by

The Tara river flows through the suburbs of Taranto, chosen in the 1960s by Pasolini as the location for The Gospel According to St. Matthew and now dominated by huge industrial plants. The waters of this river were once believed to have healing powers, but today are poisoned by the pollution from the Ilva steel works. In the light of, and despite, this painful situation, the story focuses on the people who continue to live there, on their stories, accounts, personal encounters and dreams. Together, their stories portray a complex social situation and, at the same time, a portrait of the entire city and of the changes that had occurred there over the last few decades.
