Pesce e riso

Directed by

The seasonal rise and fall of the Tonle Sap Lake is essential for the existence of nearly two million Cambodians living on an ecosystem based on rice and hundreds of different species of fish, birds, plants, and insects, each contributing to the reciprocal benefit of all. But uncontrolled deforestation, the construction of dams on the Mekong River and sophisticated commercial fishing techniques are spoiling the environment and reducing food security. A solution could be to create awareness in the communities, teaching them how to exploit without damaging their delicate environments using modern techniques.

About the Movie Fish and Rice

FAO: World Food Day

Every year on October 16, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations celebrates World Food Day, the anniversary of its founding in 1945 in Quebec City, Canada. The theme for World Food Day 2004 is "Biodiversity for Food Security". This theme emphasizes the importance of biodiversity in ensuring sustainable access to good-quality food for all the world's inhabitants, in sufficient quantities for a healthy and active life. To mark this important event, CinemAmbiente and FAO are organizing a film festival featuring films produced by FAO over the past two years on the theme of nutrition and food security.
