Payback

Directed by

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bestseller, Payback: Debt and the Shadow of Wealth (2008), the film presents an analysis of the concept of debt in an era of crisis in the global economy, as explained by examples from: two Albanian families caught in a generations-long feud; the victims of the BP oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico; tomato farmers in Florida; and newspaper magnate Conrad Black. Debt affects all levels of society, personal relationships, a community’s economic balance, government institutions and, by extension, the future of our planet.
