DSCHUNGELBURGER

Directed by

Dramatic documentary about the clearcuts in Costa Rica. Tropical forests are transformed into pastureland for cattle bound for the US fast foods. A local activist says that every kilo of meat turned into hamburgers means the destruction of 2.5 tons of fertile soil, for a total loss of 680 millions of soil per year. McDonald's vice-president's claims about their using exclusively meat coming from the USA are immediately proved wrong by the exporters. The words and images portraying the disaster sometimes become poetic: trees and animals condemned to the same destiny, logs and animals' carcasses spread for miles, shanty towns where people have to live after losing their land. Now they are underpaid day labourers or unemployed.
