In nome della razza equina

Directed by

In the name of the horse breed we are ashamed to be human.

Every year, Italy imports around 140,000 horses for slaughter from Poland, Hungary, the former Soviet Union, Croatia and Greece (ISTAT data). Animals that are crammed into trucks and containers amid unspeakable suffering, poor hygienic conditions and dehydration. All without stopping. Health checks are rare, thus allowing the evasion of customs regulations and laws prohibiting the mistreatment of animals. A scandal that concerns everyone, animal rights activists and consumers alike, because it violates these laws, violates the rights of animals and humans: a brutality that makes us doubt our humanity. This violence was documented by the exceptional footage of the inspectors of the ‘Dierenbescherming’ association.
