The court decision that ended the Eternit trial on 15 February 2012, exactly 20 years after the enactment of the law banning the production and use of asbestos in Italy, marked a milestone in the battle against a ubiquitous material proven cancerogenous. As can be found in Rosignano Solvay, a town in the province of Leghorn famous for its fine white sandy beaches and listed by the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) as one of the Mediterranean’s most polluted sites.
