Giardinieri d’assalto
Directed by
All around Italy, some citizens didn’t want to stand still and wait for things to change, so they decided to become green guerrillas. Unauthorized, they clean up and redevelop urban areas, neglected or forgotten by the local authorities. They took inspiration from the non-violent movement Guerrilla Gardening, born in New York in the seventies. The individual guerrillas Fante di Fiori and Piante Volanti, as well as the organised groups Friarielli Ribelli, Giardiniere Sovversive Romane, Terra di Nettuno or Ammazza che Piazza already count a high number of battles fought by using plants and flowers as their only (possible) weapons. United in a national network, these new urban heroes remind us that, nowadays, sowing a seed is the greatest act of revolution.
