Appia Antica

Directed by

The Appia Antica, the regina viarum, is a wedge of green extending from the center of Rome to the hills outside the city. Tombs, sepulchers, friezes, goats, pine trees and south-west breezes create a timeless scene. It’s an open-air museum now under the supervision of the Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica but in 1965 risked being developed for private real estate. The actor Giuseppe Cederna takes us on a walking tour of the via Appia Antica, recounting the battles his father Antonio (1921-1996), journalist and a founding figure of environmentalism in Italy, waged to save it by means of newspaper articles, appeals, and actions.
