From Europe to Africa to China, the product that symbolized purity and innocence has been transformed by industry leaders into a cash cow. Sustainability and traditional methods have no place in the new order. The increasingly globalized dairy market is characterized by the drive for growth and profit but also the contradictions inherent to industrialized food production. The film follows the steps in this process and questions the sustainability of a system that depends largely on government subsidies. The film also shows where alternatives could point the way to change.
