Part of the Calliope-Rete multimedia educational project for smaller islands off the coast of Sicily, under the supervision of the Istituto comprensivo, Ustica.

Through interviews with a local fisherman, students in Lipari discuss the question of child labor – when only a few generations ago kids in Sicily were often forced to work in the fishing industry or the mines, and study, if possible, during working hours.

About the Movie Canneto, un mondo di pesci

Video series on youth problems [CinemAmbiente 2003]

CinemAmbiente has expanded the youth portion of its program with an experimental section dedicated to films made by students mostly from local middle and high schools. Thanks to sponsorship by the Provincial Council of Students in Torino, we're pleased to present this Video Series on Youth Problems, where kids speak out through cinema, work groups and creative expression.

The focus is on youth problems in terms of fitting in and understanding the cultural paradoxes that regulate the world they live in. They examine the experiences of past generations, future expectations, encounters with foreign cultures and difficulties in integration, and the emergence of new meeting points for today's youth, as reflection on the environment has broadened to include the social context kids are forced to live and grow in.
