Spring 2013, Zhejiang, an eastern coastal province of the People's Republic of China. Against her daughter's wishes, and fearing potential political retaliation, Yan's mother decides to report the environmental damage caused by the paper factory that is poisoning the river that flows through her village, even launching a petition among her fellow villagers. This action will have serious repercussions on her own daily life, undermining the balance and serenity of her family, already seriously compromised by the problems related to groundwater pollution, and triggering a true odyssey with an outcome that is anything but certain.
