Peter
Kubelka

biography

He was born in Vienna on 23 March 1934. He is considered one of the masters of the history of experimental cinema. A friend of Jonas Mekas, for years linked to the American underground, Kubelka was among other things the creator of the unique screening room of the Anthology Film Archive, the short-lived “Invisible Cinema”, in which the spectator can enjoy films without being distracted by anything extraneous to the screen. Kubelka has taught at the State University of New York and the State University of San Francisco. Co-founder and curator of the Oesterreichisches Filmmuscum, he restored Vertov's film Entuziasm (1930) in 1973.
