When the Wind Blows

Directed by

The British government has distributed a brochure on what to do in case of an atomic bomb attack. A war breaks out, and a radioactive blast hits the country. Hearing the news on the radio, Jim and Hilda Bloggs, a retired couple, promptly prepare their bomb shelter following the instructions in the survival manual. Protected by their shelter, they begin to die without noticing it: the radio stops transmitting, the water supply ends, red patches appear on their skin, their hair falls out. Jim and Hilda, tenderly embracing one another, recount the joys, fears and pain experienced during the WWII bombings. Their breathing becomes shallow, their prayer flattens to a soft whisper.
