The Illusion of Abundance
Directed by
Bertha, Carolina and Máxima live in three different South American countries, and have a shared goal: fighting to protect the environment against threats from today’s conquistadores, multinational oil and mining companies. Their testimonies alternate with shocking stock images and footage of that landscape, which is exposed to all the risks resulting from ruthless neoliberal policies. The narration gives voice to those who are paying the high price of “development” and reports the negative outcomes of uncontrolled exploitation of resources, which is often facilitated by inadequate legislation. It is a heartfelt tribute to all those who take personal action to promote social justice and to safeguard the territories and the rights of the people who live there.
