On a hot summer's day in Rome, three friends break their daily routine by exploring the Tiber in a small motor boat. The trip becomes an exploration into space, time and nature, an opportunity to meet the people who live and work on the river. But it also becomes a pilgrimage to a long-forgotten world that survives not in cinematographic imagination only and contrasts with its radically different modern surroundings.
