Oil

Directed by

In 1996 in the province of Cagliari, the SARAS oil refinery went into operation, businessman Angelo Moratti’s ambitious plan to turn a poor rural area into a promising industrial zone. Comprising 800 hectares, the plant soon changed the local economy and the landscape. However, beneath the sheen of progress lay the environmental impact of harmful emissions that soon caused disease among the local population and plant employees. Massimiliano Mazzotta's razor-sharp style cuts to the truth revealed in eyewitness testimonies, covered up by the authorities and plant management, putting together evidence for a highly topical enquiry, since the work accident of last May that cost the life of three refinery workers.
