Ljudmila & Anatolij

In the spring of 1986, Ljudmila Ignatenko was 23 years old, newly wed and pregnant. She lived with her husband Vasilij in Pripyat, Ucraine. The night of 26 April the alarm sounded in the fire station where Vasilij worked: the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear power station was on fire. Leaving his wife to rush to the site, he said he’d wake her on his return home. But he never did. Now, 20 years since the Chernobyl disaster, we meet Ljudmila and her son Anatoli.
