Les Hommes de la nuit

Directed by

At dusk and at nightfall, an explorer wanders through the jungle of Borneo in search of orangutans. Equipped with a binocular and a notebook, he observes them, he studies and draws them. Two stories come to his mind during this search: a fairytale based on the Systema Naturae by Carl Lynnaeus and the testimony of the zookeeper at the Jardin des Plantes (in Paris). The film is a fascinating and dreamlike reflection on the strange symbiotic relationship that has developed between humans and primates over the centuries.

Endangered by human actions, the diversity of species is crucial to the harmony of the interconnected ecosystems we inhabit: the implications of its loss and why this issue affects more than just those that go extinct.
