Kainuulaisia

Directed by

Man against nature. In a snow-covered Scandinavian forest, two identical woodsmen encounter a strange, anthropomorphic creature with ice-blue eyes and clad in a wolf's coat trying to defend the trees against the approaching chain saws. But the woodsmen don't seem to pay him much attention. Against a stupendous northern landscape, and with a touch of irony, the tale retells the eternal conflict between man and nature.

Director's Notes

«I wanted to make this film because a pine forest in spring is a quintessential childhood experience for me. I remember how the sound of a tractor shatters the silence of the forest. How heavy wood is. The feeling of power when a huge tree falls. Sitting at a campfire, panning over the forest in farewell».
