In Between...
Directed by
Each year the city of Zagabria organizes a series of bulky trash collection days (furniture, appliances, etc.). The fun begins on the outskirts of town, then moves towards the center, with new collection points opened in different districts every two or three days, where residents pile up their unwanted belongings. While well-to-do downtown dwellers tend to be put off by the ubiquitous heaps of garbage, for others that trash is a source of income. Indeed, trash speculators don't view the refuse as garbage at all, but as some kind of “in-between” material whose past may be forgotten, but whose future can actually be lucrative. The film focuses on this curious intermediary stage and residents' varied reactions.
