Imperial Valley (cultivated run-off)

Directed by

This desert region extends for 80 km in the U.S. southwest to the border with Mexico. It is characterized by fruit and vegetable cultivation sustained by large-scale artificial irrigation systems. Run-off water, fertilizer, and toxic dust left over from nuclear testing conducted by the U.S. military during the 1940s are dumped unfiltered in the Salton Sea, which has no natural outlet. The account of an ecological and economic disaster told through aerial filming of monoculture that resembles abstract painting.
