Cleaning one's teeth, opening the fridge, throwing garbage away: trivial everyday actions that we sometimes do without too much thinking. A series of interviews with ordinary people and three scenes remind us in a half-serious tone that we know very little about the domestic running of water, power and waste. There is little awareness of how much our consumption weighs on nature. We should be able to measure, have a concrete idea of the effects of our lifestyle and, consequently, realize that a change is necessary. For this reason it is important to calculate the Ecological Mark, an indicator telling us how much of nature we need to sustain our consumption. It's an alarm bell to figure out if we are exceeding the Earth's regeneration capacity. As Italian WWF spokesman Gianfranco Bologna illustrates, the turn to sustainable development is possible, even if it's restrained by the weak political will to put it into practice. There are, however, some positive signs. The wood-power Filiera in Canavese (an agricultural area in Piedmont) is an example of how good practice in the territory allows to reconcile development and environment.

Course/competition to make a video on the subject of sustainable development: daily and imaginary life, framed from the environmental, economic and social viewpoint.
Pilot project promoted by: Sustainable Development and Waste Services, Turin Territorial Laboratory for Environmental Education Audiovisual Media Centre of Turin Province, in collaboration with Coop Zenit Arti Audiovisive, Ar.N.I.A (Environmental Image National Record Office) and Cinemambiente.
The project, whose aim is to provide instruments of social and environmental communication, has produced 5 reportage-videos on environmental and social issues. The basic idea is to realize a cooperative activity, where the competence of each party involved can be integrated in order to make finished products ready for possible distribution.
The project, started this year for the first time, has been carried out with five selected groups who applied for it. Technical teaching has included analysis of video language (linguistic models and video techniques) and some meetings on issues concerning sustainable development (environmental communication, local Agenda 21 procedures, local good practice of sustainable development, etc.).
The outcome consists of five 10 minute reportage-videos on environmental issues. Turin International Environmental Festival Cinemambiente is one of the partners of the project.
