Holy Cowboys

Directed by

In an Indian village, a teenage worker finds a stray calf grazing among polythene bags and brings the animal to the local cow shelter run by Hindu volunteers. They are committed to protecting the holy cows and reducing the consumption of beef. Fascinated by the self-sacrifice of this group of new activists, the young man decides to join them. Halfway between documentary and fiction, the film looks at contemporary India, with all its contradictions and with a system where exploitation is standard practice.
