Çapulcu - Voices from Gezi

Directed by

Gezi Parkı is one of Istanbul's smallest parks, located in Taksim Square in the Beyoğlu district. In May 2013, plans to replace the park with a shopping mall sparked an anti-government protest that was crushed with disproportionate violence, resulting in nine deaths and over eight thousand injuries. Through the voices of the students, professionals, journalists, and activists who were at the center of one of the most dramatic events in Turkish history, we witness the peaceful occupation of the area and the enthusiasm of the protests, before witnessing the brutal response of an increasingly deaf and repressive government.
