With the Montagneterapia initiative promoted by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), the alps have become a place for therapeutic-rehabilitation and socio-educational intervention for the prevention and rehabilitation of people with illness or disability. Working together, alpine guides and health care workers accompany walkers and hikers along high-mountain trails. Their emotion-filled accounts tell of significant improvement in relationships, dealing with others, showing solidarity, and increased well-being, thus demonstrating the transformative potential of an alpine setting.
