Arrietty

Directed by

Koganei, the outskirts of Tokyo, 2010. Arrietty is 14 years old and lives with her parents beneath the floor of a large country house. She is a borrower, a creature that lives by recycling what humans throw away while keeping its existence unknown. All this changes when Arrietty is discovered by Shô, a boy who must rest before undergoing a heart operation. After overcoming initial diffidence, the two become close friends before being separated for ever. Screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki based on the first in a series of children’s fantasy novels, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton; soundtrack music by the Breton musician Cécile Corbel.
