Virunga

Directed by

The 8,000 square kilometers of Virunga National Park extend across the forests of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded in 1925, Africa's first national park, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, it preserves one of the planet's richest biodiversity reserves, as well as being the last great refuge for mountain gorillas. And it is in this precious area that a war has been waged for years between rangers, often former child soldiers, who seek to protect its extraordinary flora and fauna, and armed militias who seek to seize it and fully exploit its natural resources.
