Un monde pour soi

Some argue that a house, a small plot of land, and a private pool are all a person needs. From this perspective, new clusters of second homes surrounded by greenery would seem to fit the mold of ideal modern cities. What is the real impact of urban development in rural areas, particularly on the landscape, biodiversity, and the environment? Drawing on Jean Giono's short story The Man Who Planted Trees, Yann Simic creates a veritable study of contemporary rural urbanization, often characterized by the proliferation of highly standardized architectural forms.
