Pouring Water On Troubled Oil

Directed by
In 1951, Dylan Thomas was commissioned to write the screenplay for a film promoting the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Set against the backdrop of political crisis brewing between Britain and Iran, his job, as he later related, was to “pour water on troubled oil”. Taken from archival footage and Thomas’s lyrical tale narrated by Welsh actor Michael Sheen, the film is a highly critical account of his journey around Iran.
