La vita come viaggio aziendale

Directed by

Silvano Bignozzi and Lino Toselli are very special travelers. The two, representatives from Bologna, have worked for the same company for thirty years, selling grappa, sparkling wine, and chamomile tea to local bars and restaurants. They're so good they've won twenty-five prize trips to the most exotic corners of the planet. This documentary about the travels of the amusing Bignozzi-Toselli duo, while showcasing a comical Italian spirit abroad, also reveals disturbing behind-the-scenes stories of mass vacations, an unsustainable form of tourism. Morocco, Brazil, Thailand, Kenya, California, Mexico, Egypt, Bali, Santo Domingo... Bignozzi and Toselli have visited half the world, but what do they really know about those places and cultures? The two, who alone would never have set foot outside Italy, reveal the vices and virtues of a globalized world through camel rides in Saudi Arabia, topless dancers in Uruguayan clubs, and paragliding adventures in Argentina.

«Starting from around the mid-1980s, my colleagues and I filmed Bignozzi and Toselli on over 15 corporate trips. It was an assignment commissioned by their company. Then, about 10 years later, the idea of making a film about corporate trips came to me. I instantly realized that Bignozzi and Toselli would make the perfect characters for the film's narrative focus. I think we could say that the film is ultimately about tourism, or better, what is defined as mass tourism».
