L’ultimo calore d’acciaio

Directed by

The evolution of heavy industry from the 19th and the 20th century to today’s digital logistics management as told in the history of the Ferriera Steel Mill, Trieste, which closed after 123 years of activity and numerous changes of ownership. Because of the central role it played in the local economy and society, the mill is a symbol but not a solitary event. Bytes, containers, white collars, and silence have taken the place of fire, dust, sweat, and hammering. It is the story of urban transformation toward sustainable production and conversion of metal into clean energy and of social change driven by new and cleaner albeit more anonymous forms of production.
