About the Movie Il suono della biodiversità
FI(na)LMENTE 2.0: Science Opens Up Itself!
The FI(na)LMENTE project stems from the need to develop new synergies for effective scientific communication and responds to the challenge of an increasingly hyperconnected society, where access to information is immediate but not always verified or comprehensible. In this scenario, the research world is called to transcend the confines of academia and speak out firsthand, adopting tools capable of making complex content accessible while maintaining rigor. Therefore, FI(na)LMENTE, inspired by the University of Zurich's Science Filmmaking Marathon, aims to explore the language of cinema in a dynamic, direct, and engaging format. This new edition renews the collaboration with the Cinemambiente Festival, the Doctoral School of the University of Turin, and the InTo Brain Association, while welcoming the Ferdinando Rossi School of Advanced Studies of the University of Turin - SSST for the first time. The project consolidates its presence, opening up to new perspectives and involving twelve PhD students from as many scientific disciplines, along with eight students from the SSST. During an intensive four-day workshop, participants – led by professional directors from Zenit Arti Audiovisive – were introduced to the fundamentals of visual storytelling and filmmaking, with the goal of transforming their research topics into accessible, creative, and impactful scientific short films. Memorie nucleari, L’archivio del clima, Il suono della biodiversità, Una questione di chimica were four videos that tackle highly topical issues, from melting glaciers to nuclear power plants, the fundamental role of bees in ecosystems, and the chemistry behind our beloved herbal teas.
