After an exhaustive publicity campaign, television commercials, radio announcements and 400 illuminated billboards: on the morning of 31st May 2003, over 3000 people attended the opening ceremony of a huge department store on the outskirts of Prague. Once the ribbon was cut and the barriers removed there was nothing but the facade of the building. Czech Dream is a film on a shopping centre that never existed; it explores the effects of consumer society and the power of the media in post-communist societies.
