Winterbottom
biography
Nato a Blackburn nel 1961, si è laureato a Oxford e ha studiato cinematografia a Bristol e Londra. Ha diretto due documentari su Ingmar Bergman e alcuni sceneggiati televisivi tra i quali ha avuto grande successo Family, girato per la BBC. I primi riconoscimenti li ha ottenuti grazie a Butterfly Kisses e a Go Now, entrambi del 1995. Poi, nel 1996, Jude, adattamento da Jude the Oscure di Thomas Hardy. Nel 1997 ha girato Welcome to Sarajevo. Dopo I Want You (1998) ha diretto uno dei suoi film di maggiore successo Wonderland (1999), dello stesso anno è With or Without You. Dopo The Claim (2000) nel 2002 dirige 24 Hour Party People e In This World.
