biography
Nato nel 1954 nella prefettura di Miyagi, ha cominciato la propria carriera come disegnatore e scrittore di fumetti, pubblicando nel 1973 A Gun Report e imponendosi definitivamente con la serie Akira. Alla fine degli anni Settanta si accosta al cinema d'animazione: tra i suoi lavori Akira (1988) e Cannon Fodder (1995).
