Ha esordito come attrice nel 1983 in El sur di Victor Erice, recitando quindi per registi come Ken Loach, prima di realizzare il suo primo film da regista, Hola, ¿estás sola?, nel 1995. Ha quindi diretto Flores de otro mundo, Ti do i miei occhi, Mataharis e También la lluvia.
