Co-founder of the Italian Verdi political party and their representative leader in Parliament, Alexander Langer opposed himself to the “ethnic cages” and did not give in even when personally threatened. “Whoever has visions should see a doctor” was what the former Federal Councillor, Schmidt, used to say to him. Langer did not take any notice of him. He hanged himself on the Florentine hills in the summer of 1995. His story is told in the context of those days and is interwoven with the testimonies of some of his friends like Adriano Sofri, Daniel Cohn-Bendit and others.
