Rumore bianco

Directed by

The Tagliamento flows slowly: its 170 km course forms a border between Veneto and Friuli, but also a crossroads where people and cultures meet. White Noise gives a poetic account of life along the river, enlisting a host of characters: two old ladies who live at the source of the river, a family of fishermen on an island, a group of Swiss scientists studying the river's habits. What emerges is a detailed portrait, masterfully edited and photographed, in alternating glimpses of past and present, the importance of the river as a cultural resource, a silent yet ever present witness of wars, floods, social upheavals and many stories of routine life.

Pure from its source, uncontaminated and bottled in plastic, this essential element is both wasted and sought after like a treasure, too much or too little in a changing world.
