In a snowy Tuscan village, in the late winter of 1890, a mummified body is found inside a tree trunk. The event causes quite a stir in the small community. No one knows where the corpse came from or who it belongs to, but the parish priest nevertheless decides to enshrine it as a precious relic in the village church, before he can learn the free, untamed, and mischievous nature of the unfortunate creature that has been awakened.
