SuperOttimisti

Superottimisti is a project by the Documentary in Europe Association (AIE) for the recovery of memory through the collection of amateur films in 8mm, Super8, 9.5mm, and 16mm formats, and their subsequent cataloging, archiving, and dissemination. The project's goal is to preserve and enhance the material, both historically and cinematically. The memories that many have entrusted over the years to so-called "home movies," which recount even major historical events in a particularly intimate way, find a new home in the archive, constituting a valuable database for scholars and documentary filmmakers, who can draw upon it to enrich their works with original material. The archive's materials reveal the perspectives and narratives of the historical period in which they were created and offer us the opportunity to rethink history through previously unseen images.
